UPDATE: Credit Card 'Skimmers' Found On Several ATMs In The Wichita Area

Wichita Police Department
The credit card 'skimmer' found at Sunflower Bank's E Harry location

UPDATE:

Following the discovery of a credit card "skimmer" at a Sunflower Bank, Wichita Police has discovered that three more ATMs had once housed skimming devices.

The skimmers were taken prior to bank or law enforcement finding them.

Original Story:

A device used to steal credit card information was found at a Wichita bank on Thursday morning.

The device, known as a skimmer, was found at the Sunflower Bank located at 4101 E Harry. According to the Wichita Police Department, the small green mechanism was directly attached to the card reader of an ATM. When a user inserts their card through the skimmer and into the ATM, it can store credit card information that thieves can then access.

Officials with the Wichita Police Department say they recovered the device before potential thieves were able to retrieve any information.

Similar devices have been found in Salina and the Kansas City area.

Police are asking those who have used the E Harry Sunflower Bank location to check their bank account for any suspicious activity.

They’re also asking area residents to check for skimmers before using local ATMs. They’re often only attached with double-sided tape.
