Inter-Faith Ministries will host its first “Homeless For A Day Challenge” this spring.

Participants will stay in Inter-Faith’s winter homeless shelter and take part in activities to educate them on the issues surrounding homelessness. There will also be virtual challenges like feeding a family on $5 for those who cannot attend in person.

Angela Perez, director of Development & Community Engagement for Inter-Faith, hopes the challenge will give people a glimpse into the lives of homeless individuals living in severe poverty.

“On any given night, there are over 500 people sleeping on the streets of Wichita," she said.

"Through the challenge, we hope to not only bring attention to the homeless issue here in Wichita, but also to showcase the programs and services that IFM provides to help this vulnerable population."

Cities such as Los Angeles and New York have hosted similar challenges to raise awareness of the homeless.

The Homeless for a Day Challenge in Wichita will be held the weekend of April 27-28.
