Kansas Housing Resources Corp. Wants Your Help Spending $2 M For Rural Housing

The Kansas Housing Resources Corporation is asking for proposals for using $2 million in state funding for rural moderate-income housing.

The program is open to communities across Kansas with populations of less than 60,000 residents. The grants and loans are for building multi-family or single-family housing, to rehabilitate housing and to build utility extensions to support new developments.

The housing corporation defines moderate annual income as between about $23,000 and $110,000, though those numbers vary with family size. The idea is to fill a gap for people who make too much to be eligible for federal housing programs, but not enough to afford market-rate housing.

KHRC will hold public meetings about the program this week around the state in Topeka, Hays, Dodge City, and Independence.

The meetings will be held:

1) June 10, 10:00 AM, at the Topeka Kansas Housing Resources Corporation, 611 S. Kansas, Suite 300

2) June 11 9:30 AM, at Hays Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development, 2700 Vine Street

3) June 11, 2:30 PM, at Dodge City Mariah Hills Golf Course Clubhouse, 1800 Matt Down Road

4) June 13, 1:30 PM at Independence Memorial Hall, 410 North Penn (Enter on the north side of the building on the lower level and the meeting room will be located off to the right.)

Applications are due Sept. 6.
