Prepare for a spooky time with tales that will leave your spine tingling at this special after hours event!
AMADEUS is a compelling, high-spirited and wrenching tale of how actual greatness and the desire for greatness can be equally destructive. This is the story of two 18th century composers – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri.
What – you’ve never heard of Salieri? . . . In every human being who has felt lesser or unimportant in the presence of a greater talent, there lives a Salieri.
This highly theatrical and unforgettable tale about obsession, jealousy and the price of fame is presented in partnership with Wichita State University Opera Theater.
Shaffer’s 1979 masterpiece is a fictionalized story of the boy-genius Mozart and his musical contemporary, the Court Composer Antonio Salieri. Narrated by Salieri (the self-confessed “Patron Saint of Mediocrities”) whose life’s work is threatened by his jealousy of Mozart’s brilliance, this drama examines Salieri’s tortured, obsessive battle with the Creator, as the older composer rages against a God who has bestowed the greatest gifts to someone else.

17 years ago ICT Roller Girls was formed. It was 2006 and roller derby was making its comeback across the US. Merely two years after the league was founded ICT had more than forty skaters. Thus sprouting the A team (the All Stars) and the B team (Havoc). ICT Roller Girls had played both locally and throughout the US, even hosting the WFTDA Division 2 playoffs in 2016. After a simple, but necessary, rebranding in 2017 ICT Roller Girls officially changed to ICT Roller Derby to be more inclusive.
Throughout the years, the league has seen its share of high numbers of league members as well as low. However, once COVID hit, the entire sport (like the rest of the world) had been put on hold. Changing the whole dynamic of the league, ICT had to rebuild from the ground up. After only 3 original members from ICT remained, it was time to take a long look at what keeping the league alive and thriving meant. We felt it was time for another rebranding because we are a (mostly) totally new team. We are formed from fresh faces with opportunities to grow. We are an all genders, all ages, all experience levels team. We are new and excited to be here in Wichita. We are WICKED CITY ROLLER DERBY
Carlos Simon’s Fate Now Conquers sets the mood for an evening of bold, brilliant performances. Inspired by Beethoven’s journals, it is a gripping and rhythmically charged response to the great composer’s defiance of destiny. Simon’s work crackles with urgency channeling Beethoven’s spirit in a voice that’s modern, bold, and uncompromising.
Celebrated pianist Michelle Cann then takes center stage at the Wichita Symphony Steinway with the tour de force that is Beethoven’s Fifth Piano Concerto – “The Emperor.” A masterpiece of balance between the soloist and orchestra, it embodies Beethoven’s unwavering belief in the human spirit and solidifies his defiance of adversity, as heard in the opening work.
The evening concludes with sweeping drama and lyrical beauty in Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. This symphony captures the full spectrum of human emotion through its lush orchestration, surging melodies, and vulnerable voice.
