Stan Kenton Christmas Brass Concert
West Heights United Methodist Church presents its 46th annual Stan Kenton Christmas Brass Concert featuring soaring trumpets and roaring brass, sounding out traditional Christmas carols that bring forth the spirit of the season.
For more than four decades, West Heights has set out to establish a unique Christmas musical experience. Directed by jazz band leader Anthony Panek, the lively concert, featuring 20 musicians, creates an ocean of sound proclaiming Christmas joy.
Stan Kenton, born in the Delano District of Wichita in 1911, became a renowned pianist, jazz arranger and jazz educator, helping to establish the study of jazz as a legitimate form of music in high schools and universities.
Former directors of the Kenton Christmas Brass have included Newton "Newt" Graber, Henry "Hank" Elder, and Lisa Hittle.
A free-will donation will be taken to support the musicians and the director.
