Opening reception: Abstract National Exhibition
An opening night reception for the Abstract National Exhibition at Mark Arts will be held Friday, July 22. The exhibition, juried by Dominic Chambers, will be on display through Sept. 24 in the Gladys and Karl T. Wiedemann Gallery. It brings together more than 60 works by leading contemporary artists from across the country.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the reception will include 6 p.m. remarks, followed by a performance by the Regina Klenjoski Dance Company and a 7 p.m. talk by Chambers. Chambers will discuss his works and the inspiration he draws from Magical Realism and the writing of W.E.B. Du Bois, particularly "The Souls of Black Folk" and one of its central themes — the veil. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a host bar will be available. Advance reservations are requested.
The Abstract National Exhibition is presented by the Koch Family Foundation.
