Kansas Gas Service Seeking Input On Proposed Rate Hike

wikipedia.org

The Kansas Corporation Commission will hold a public hearing Monday about a rate hike requested by the Kansas Gas Service.

The KCC is seeking input from the public regarding an application from the Kansas Gas Service to increase it’s utility rates. Linda Berry, KCC Public Affairs Director, says the gas company is requesting a $ 28 million rate increase.

"The average monthly bill for residential customers would increase about $4.34-per-month, and that’s an increase of about 7.4 percent," Berry says.

Kansas Gas Service says the rate hike is necessary because of system upgrades to provide safe, reliable and efficient natural gas service.

The hearing will be held on Monday in Overland Park. Berry says those who are unable to attend can watch online at the KCC website. She says comments from across the state are welcomed.

"They can do that through our website, through a letter, through a phone call to the office of Public Affairs, and that information is documented, and it becomes part of the official case record," Berry says.

A ruling on the increase is expected on or before December 16th.
