Demand For Boeing 737 Means Hundreds Of Job Openings At Spirit AeroSystems

Spirit Aerosystems

Spirit AeroSystems has announced hundreds of job openings in Wichita. The company will be holding a job fair this weekend.

The company needs about 350 assembly mechanics who will work primarily on the Boeing 737, according to spokesperson Jarrod Bartlett.

Spirit builds 75 percent of the aircraft right here in Wichita, and 32 are produced each month. The company says demand is growing, and in the future, as many as 52 could be built a month.

Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell discussed the added jobs at his weekly media briefing.

“Spirit certainly has been one of those companies that we’ve truly appreciated in this down cycle,” Longwell said. “They’ve continued to be very robust.”

According to Spirit, applicants for Saturday’s job fair only need a general background in mechanics. The company also has about 150 job openings in various other parts of its Wichita headquarters.

Potential applicants are asked to apply online ahead of time, using the Spirit AeroSystems website.

The job fair is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday July 18 at 3420 S. Oliver St.
