Night Train marks the birthday of pianist and singer Diana Krall, including her cover of a song from Mose Allison, the Night Train November featured artist. There’s also a Mose Allison tribute special in hour two, music from Monty Alexander (featured on the next Global Village at the Savannah Music Festival concert show on Monday November 30th), the start of a week-long tribute to Latin jazz percussionist Candido and to this year’s Latin Grammy nominees, and new music from Eddie Henderson, John Daversa, and the Mark Masters Ensemble.
Tuesday, November 17
Night Train marks birthdays of trombonist Roswell Rudd and bassist Ben Allison, and continues the November Mose Allison feature, and a week-long tribute to Latin percussion master Candido, who passed away earlier this month. Throughout the week, Night Train is also highlighting jazz nominees in this year’s Latin Grammys in advance of Thursday’s Awards ceremony. New releases featured tonight include the Uptown Jazz Tenet, the Christian McBride Big Band, Steve Cardenas, and Artemis, Joe Fiedler’s Big Sackbut, and the Claire Daly Band.
Wednesday, November 18
Night Train continues its month-long Mose Allison feature and week-long salutes to Latin jazz percussionist Candido (here as part of the Conga Kings) and this year’s Latin Grammy nominees (including tonight with the Emilio Solla Tango Jazz Orchestra). Birthday artists tonight include vocalist Sheila Jordan, trumpeter Don Cherry, saxophonist Bennie Wallace, and songwriter Johnny Mercer (featured in an hour two special).
Thursday, November 19
Music tonight on the Night Train from November featured artist Mose Allison, percussionist Candido (wrapping up a weeklong tribute to the conga master who recently passed away), and birthday artists Vincent Herring, Savion Glover (tap dancing with Abbey Lincoln!), and Tommy Dorsey (including a special featuring both him and his musical brother Jimmy).
