This week on The Range, our own intern, Katelynn McIlwain, is spending the summer with a community of interns on the Wichita State campus. She talked with some of them about how they’re adjusting to life in Wichita, their career goals and what this opportunity means to them.
Plus, in a quiet Kansas town dwells the origins of an epic story. Pilsen — a town about an hour northeast of Wichita — is the hometown of Father Emil Kapaun. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Korean War. And the Catholic Church is considering him for sainthood. Kapaun’s remarkable story is remembered most vividly in his hometown, the destination for an annual pilgrimage in his honor. Lu Stephens has more for this month’s Hidden Kansas.
