Businessman Mike Kinard and community activist Brandon Johnson will be on the ballot for Wichita City Council District 1 in November’s general election.
The two candidates were the top two vote-getters in Tuesday's local primary. They beat community activist Janet Wilson and Wichita Pachyderm Club president John Stevens.
Unofficial results show Kinard, a businessman and former Wichita School Board member, received the second most votes at 22 percent.
Johnson, also a community activist, scored the most votes at 52 percent. He celebrated the victory with supporters at his headquarters Tuesday night.
"It means so much," Johnson said. "We put in a lot of work getting out and talking to people and making sure that their voices were heard. That's how we built our platform is off of the people, and it just means that this is what the people want."
In Haysville, Danny Walters and Darren Pokorski will face each other in the general election for the Ward 4 seat. In Park City, Steve Brown and Benjamin Sauceda were the two - top vote getters in the Ward 3 primary.
More than 38,000 Sedgwick county residents were eligible to vote in the primary election. Unofficial returns show about 3100 votes were cast.
The general election for all municipal races is November 7.
