“In general, I’m most dedicated to giving an authentic performance. That’s the most I can ask out of myself. I never know if my setlist is going to match the location perfectly or if people are going to like it or hate it or ignore it. I’m just trying to connect to what I’m playing and that’s the bottom line.
I’ve had set lists before, where as soon as I get to a location, I think, ‘This isn’t going to work.’ I need to replace four or five songs with other songs from my archives and hopefully they’re practiced. It’s possible that some songs won’t work or people won’t be ready to hear them. Or it’s not going to be appropriate for whatever reason.”
