Sedgwick County’s early voting period begins on Monday at the election office in downtown Wichita.

If you are ready to vote in the general election, you can cast your ballot at the election office through Nov. 7. Fifteen other sites around the county will open for voting on Nov. 1.

County Election Commissioner Tabitha Lehman says people need to show a photo ID to be able to vote, which is a different requirement than the proof of U.S. citizenship the state requires.

Lawsuits against that requirement are moving through the courts.

"One of the questions we’ve been receiving is, 'Are all these court rulings affecting photo ID at the polls?'" Lehman says. "No, none of these court rulings have anything to do with the fact that you still need to bring government-issued photo ID when you go to vote on Election Day or early."

Just like on Election Day, early voters can make their choices using a paper ballot or an electronic voting machine.

The office sent out 54,000 ballots on Friday to registered voters who requested to vote by mail.
