Republicans are projecting 5,000 attendees at their caucus in downtown Wichita Saturday. Democratic caucuses will also get underway Saturday, including on Wichita State's campus and in Andover.
Dalton Glasscock, state chair of the College Republicans, says all Republicans who registered before Feb. 4 are invited to attend the 10 a.m. caucus.
"You’ll hear speakers from different organizations, the College Republicans the Black Republicans, and then every single candidate represented as well, and then at the conclusion of the event you’ll be able to cast your ballot for who you think should be our nominee in 2016," he explains.
Kerry Gooch, executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party, says the Democratic caucuses begin with registration at 1 p.m., with caucusing starting at 3 p.m. Gooch says people will gather in groups to representing their candidate.
"People will be allowed to decide their final vote on who they would like to caucus for the presidential caucus. Then there will be a count. We’ll count literally every single person on each side of the room for each candidate and then that will determine who wins that caucus location," he says.
Both parties hope the caucuses will garner thousands of voters, as they have in the past.
