The Sedgwick County Commission will put forth a resolution at Wednesday's meeting requesting that the state take action against benefits for undocumented immigrants.
The resolution asks for the state Legislature to pass a law that would prohibit people without lawful immigration status from receiving in-state tuition at state universities. It also asks that the Kansas Department of Health and Environment exclude "non-qualified aliens" from the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, which provides low-income pregnant women and new mothers, and also kids under the age of 5, with healthy food and health classes.
An activist for the undocumented Hispanic community reached out to the press today calling for a discontinuation of the term "illegal" in reference to their immigration status.
