Wichita State University says offensive chalk drawings found on campus earlier this week were actually the work of a student completing an art project.
In a statement, WSU police chief Sara Morris said the student has come forward and has been interviewed by police about the drawings, some of which included offensive language regarding race and gender identity.
The student explained that the chalk drawings were intended to provoke discussion, not as hate speech.
The drawings were found Monday in front of several buildings on campus. At the time, the university released a statement denouncing all forms of hate speech.
Morris said the University Police Department is "satisfied that this matter is resolved."
