Kansas political watchers have been buzzing with talk of state officials possibly moving into the administration of President-elect Donald Trump.
Kansas Congressman Mike Pompeo has already been selected to head the CIA. There’s also been talk of possible jobs for Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Gov. Sam Brownback and others.
Bob Beatty, professor of political science at Washburn University, says it’s unusual for one state to attract this much attention for administration jobs. Beatty says the spotlight could be on Kansas because many state officials skew politically to the right.
“The Kansas brand is this very conservative brand and Donald Trump clearly is looking for very conservative members in this new administration,” Beatty says.
The Trump administration rumors have been most intense surrounding Secretary of State Kris Kobach. He was an early Trump supporter and met with the president-elect over the weekend.
