A Libertarian woman from Bonner Springs has filed the paperwork to run for the 2014 Kansas gubernatorial race.
Tresa McAlhaney announced Wednesday she's running as a Libertarian in a third-party challenge to Republican Gov. Sam Brownback. McAlhaney has filed the necessary documents to form a committee with the state to begin her campaign.
Grant Nelson of Prairie Village joins McAlhaney on the ticket as lieutenant governor candidate.
As a member of a third party in Kansas, the Libertarian Party must formally nominate the candidates to be included on the 2014 general election ballot.
Governor Brownback is expected to seek re-election for a second term in 2014. He is yet to formally file for re-election.
Kansas Democrats are saying they expect a candidate to step forward to challenge Brownback.
