Syria Strike Not Popular with Kansas Delegation

The all-Republican Kansas congressional delegation is almost unanimous in its opposition to a U.S. military action in Syria.

U.S. Representatives Kevin Yoder, Lynn Jenkins and Tim Huelskamp are all against use of military force, along with Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran. Roberts says the U.S. does not have enough support from its allies, and that the proposed mission has no clear objective.

“Instead of sending a strong message to Assad, North Korea, Iran, Russia, it will be regarded as little more than a slap on the wrist,” Roberts says.

Republican Congressman Mike Pompeo of the Kansas 4th District, which includes Wichita, does support military action against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. In an editorial for the Washington Post this week, he said he would approve of a decisive, well-crafted strike.
