Wichita Schools To Hold Community Feedback Sessions

Wichita Public Schools Superintendent Alicia Thompson is hosting community feedback sessions to hear opinions on the effectiveness of the district’s recently implemented strategic plan.

A panel including Thompson and board of education members will be present at the meetings. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences and opinions regarding the plan so far.

Within her first year as superintendent, Thompson held 20 feedback sessions. Susan Arensman of Wichita Public Schools says the feedback sessions have been integral to the construction of the strategic plan and are crucial to its continued success.

“This is very important to get feedback so we can make sure we are headed in the right direction, and so we can serve as many people’s needs as we can," she said.

The four main goals of the Every Student Future Ready Strategic Plan are: increasing graduation rates, improving third-grade reading proficiency, increasing certifications and college credit for high schoolers, and ensuring Wichita schools are seen as safe places.

The plan aims for noticeable improvement in all areas of these goals by 2023.

Childcare and translators will be provided at every meeting.
