After winning a seat in the state senate in the general election, Democrat Lynn Rogers says he's leaning toward resigning from his spot on the Board of Education for Wichita Public Schools.
State law allows those elected to state office to continue serving on local school boards. In 2000 former Wichita school board member Jean Schodorf chose to keep her seat on the school board when she was elected to the Kansas Senate. Her school board term expired in June 2001.
Rogers says his main concern is the people in his school board district and the time he would be able to dedicate to representing them.
"I've had a lot of people ask me that question and I could technically do both but I think my wife would kill me and it probably wouldn't be fair to the sixth district," Rogers said.
Rogers has been on the board since 2001 and his current term doesn't expire until January 2018. If he does decide to resign, his replacement would have to be appointed by the existing board members. The candidate must also live in District 6 which includes parts of north and northeast Wichita, Riverside and Midtown.
