Voters in Wichita will decide next week whether to stay the course with the city’s current mayor, or take city hall in a different direction.

Incumbent Mayor Jeff Longwell is seeking re-election against state Rep. Brandon Whipple. Each candidate brings years of political experience to the role — one local, the other at the state level.

Don’t let the size of your ballot fool you: Tuesday’s election will have big implications for Wichita (as do all elections, really).

Two primary races will narrow the fields for Wichita mayor and the Wichita School Board’s at-large seat.

With the candidate filing deadline now passed, the races for several Wichita city council seats are taking shape – including a crowded field for mayor.

The fourth Regional Mayors Summit will be held in Derby on Wednesday. As KMUW’s Carla Eckels reports, mayors from a 10-county region are expected to share ideas about how to stimulate the economy in south-central Kansas.

Mayors from Wichita, Derby, Mount Hope and Goddard are coordinating the summit, which is expected to attract close to 30 mayors from across south-central Kansas.

Wichita Independent Neighborhoods (WIN), an advocacy organization for neighbors and neighborhoods in the city, will host a mayoral forum on Monday night in downtown Wichita. KMUW’s Carla Eckels reports…

WIN Representative Janet Wilson says the forum will feature both candidates running for Wichita mayor, Jeff Longwell and Sam Williams.

According to Wilson, WIN's forum will concentrate on the mayoral candidates so that people can be informed before they got to the polls.

The Arts Council is moving next week’s mayoral candidate forum to a larger location inside Century II to accommodate a bigger audience. KMUW’s Carla Eckels reports…

All ten mayoral candidates in Wichita have been invited to participate in the forum. Leaders from the Arts Council and other arts organizations are expected to ask the candidates questions about city government’s role in supporting the arts and implementing a comprehensive cultural plan.
