Sedgwick County Commissioner and former state Sen. Michael O’Donnell has been charged with more counts of wire fraud and money laundering related to his campaigns for office, just days before a scheduled hearing on Friday to have earlier charges dismissed.

A federal judge on Tuesday handed down three consecutive life sentences to an Olathe resident who pleaded guilty to hate crimes in May for killing an Indian national and wounding two other men.

A Wichita lawyer and a computer software engineer have pleaded not guilty to a federal indictment alleging they plotted cyberattacks on websites with information criticizing the attorney's work.

A well-known Wichita lawyer and a computer software engineer were charged Tuesday in federal court in connection with cyberattacks on websites that posted information critical of the lawyer’s work.

A news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office said lawyer Brad Pistotnik and David Dorsett are being charged with five counts of computer fraud and two counts of conspiracy. Pistotnik also is charged with three counts of making false statements to the FBI.

An off-duty Wichita police officer killed an intruder who had entered his home and threatened him with a gun, Chief Gordon Ramsay said Tuesday.

The officer also was shot, but has since been released from the hospital, Ramsay said. He identified the man killed as 24-year-old Christian Webb. Officials did not identify the officer.

Federal prosecutors have revived an effort to target violent crime in Kansas, this time with a focus on Wichita and Garden City, U.S. Attorney for Kansas Stephen McAllister announced Thursday.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative prioritizes federal prosecutions of repeat violent offenders and convicted criminals who carry firearms.

Two Wyandotte County Sheriff's deputies died after being shot Friday behind the county courthouse by an inmate who was being transferred, police said. Patrick Rohrer, 35, and Theresa King, 44, both died at the University of Kansas Hospital.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department is investigating the shooting, and said that the deputies were wearing body cameras and there were lots of cameras in the gated area behind the courthouse, where two detainees were being transferred back into a van.
