A newly formed advisory committee for Wichita’s Delano Neighborhood, just west of downtown, has its first public input meeting Monday night.

The city formed the Delano Plan Advisory Committee in July to help guide the development of a new neighborhood revitalization plan.

The public has two chances this week to weigh in on plans for the redesign of Naftzger Park in downtown Wichita.

A new company is coming to Wichita and is expected to bring hundreds of new jobs to downtown.

Virginia-based Faneuil provides business outsourcing services, such as customer care and tech assistance. It employs about 5,000 people at 20 locations nationwide.

Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell announced Thursday that the firm's new location will be in Union Station downtown.

“We think that’s a great opportunity to see an additional 400 employees in the heart of our city," he said.

The City of Wichita is holding a special meeting Thursday night for the public to learn more about the proposed 2018-19 budget.

The nearly $600 million budget includes funding for the first phase of a recent staffing plan for the Wichita Police Department. It also funds five full-time and six part-time positions at the Advanced Learning Library opening next year, and supports a four-year sustainability plan for the city's transit system.

Hundreds of volunteers are needed in Wichita next month to help distribute free backpacks and shoes to children heading to school this fall.

Organizers are looking for 1200 volunteers to help with the "Day of Hope” event at McAdams Park and Bethel Life Center.

The City of Wichita, churches, health organizations and the humanitarian relief organization Convoy of Hope are part of the collaborative effort.
