A momentous election is now less than 40 days away, and a local group has been working hard to register young voters.
The Wichita Community Voting Coalition is holding a series of drive-thru registration events as part of a nationwide effort to engage young people in the election process.
"I read that the history for young people voting is not much of a history. As a rule, young people do not vote," organizer Maggie Thompson said at the kick-off event earlier this month. "They think that their vote doesn’t count, but I’m telling you, your vote counts.
"When you fill out that ballot of who you want to elect, that vote is counted along with somebody 70, 50 or 40."
Another drive-through registration event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Tabernacle Bible Church, 1817 N. Volutsia.
The League of Women Voters is also hosting a drive-through registration in Derby on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Madison Ave. Central Park.
