WSU men's basketball coach Gregg Marshall exits the court after a loss to Notre Dame in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

Wichita State University men’s basketball coach Gregg Marshall has been suspended from the team’s final exhibition game in Canada.

Marshall will be absent from Wednesday afternoon’s game against the IndiSport All-Stars, the school said in a news release. The team has been on a four-game tour of Canada.

Darron Boatright, interim director of the athletics for WSU, said he suspended Marshall after the coach received two technical fouls and was ejected from an exhibition game against McGill University Tuesday night. Marshall had to be restrained by members of the coaching staff and team after he continued to confront referees.

“While I understand the competitive spirit that accompanies coaching, there remains a standard of professional behavior in a position of leadership that we all must meet,” Boatright said in the release. “That standard was not met last night.”

Marshall said he accepts the university’s decision and will “gladly sit out tonight’s game in hopes that a lesson can be learned that it’s not just about doing the right thing, but doing it the right way.”
