The Wichita Police Department will set up a DUI checkpoint tonight.
WPD Sgt. Nikki Woodrow says police will run the check lane at an undisclosed location from 11 p.m. until 3 a.m.
“Officers will come and contact the drivers, probably check the driver’s license and make sure they’re not impaired, and then they can continue on their way, so it’s a very very short, momentary stop,” she said at a briefing this week.
The department is coordinating the checkpoint with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department, Sedgwick County Emergency Management Services, the DUI Victims Center of Kansas and the Salvation Army.
Also tonight, police will have extra patrol officers out on the streets around the city to look for impaired drivers.
