West Coast Blues

Friday, June 19 and Sunday, June 21

Crossroads continues the June West Coast Blues feature with music from and inspired by Charles Brown, one of the key figures in the creation of the sophisticated, after hours rhythm and blues style that developed on the West Coast after the War.

We’ll hear early and comeback tracks from Brown and such related artists as Ray Charles, Percy Mayfield and more, along with a Charles Brown special in hour two of the show. Plus new music from Roomful of Blues, Bruce Katz, and Ruthie Foster, and remembering Lucky Peterson and Little Charlie Baty (of Little Charlie & the Nightcats).

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
