Wichita Police are looking at surveillance videos of an alleged hate crime that took place this past weekend.

It was late -- very late -- on Friday night when an encounter between four young men--a Muslim; his friend, an Hispanic man; an African-American man; and a young white man on a motorcycle--got ugly. The Kwik Shop on 21st Street was the scene.

Racial epithets flew, as well as shouts such as "Trump Trump Trump" and "You need to leave this country." The shouts escalated into punching and then kicking.

One of the victims was Khondoker Usama, WSU's vice president of Student Government Affairs.

"I tried to restrain the attacker, and I also got pushed over and got assaulted," Usama said at a press conference Monday. "I saw the attacker was reaching into his pocket, and I was scared and stepped back because I thought he would bring up a gun."

Delegates from CAIR Kansas, the state affiliate of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, are calling for the attack to be prosecuted as a hate crime. The attacker is still at large.
