Three students were awarded Wichita State University’s Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships, one of the largest undergraduate scholarships in Kansas.

Kevin Dao, Sydney Wyatt and Jillian Newfield were selected Thursday from more than 600 students who participated in the Distinguished Scholarship Invitation. Each Gore Scholar will receive $16,000 a year for four years, totaling $64,000.

Dao is a senior at Wichita Southeast High School and is interested in studying entrepreneurship. Wyatt, a senior at Cherokee High School in Oklahoma, also is interested in studying entrepreneurship. Newfield, from Union High School in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, plans to study mechanical engineering.

The scholarship was created in 1952 by the family of Harry Gore, a Russian immigrant who placed a high priority on education. The scholarship recognizes the leadership and academic skills of high school seniors.
