Crossroads kicks off the Summer Festival Month feature with blues from Newport (including Ray Charles and Sleepy John Estes).
The show also marks the birthday of the legendary Mavis Staples with music she did on live albums of her own and recordings she did as part of the Staple Singers – and in hour two of the show, in a special performance from Mavis at Newport.
It’s also the birthday of popular piedmont blues artist Blind Boy Fuller - and there’s new music from Whitney Shay, Cindy Cashdollar, and Jimmy Johnson.
