Summer Fest Month: American Folk Blues Festival And Popsy Dixon

Friday, July 24 and Sunday, July 26

Crossroads continues the Summer Festival Month feature with music from the American Folk Blues Festival, an influential tour that started in the early ‘60s and introduced American blues greats to a new European audience, including some folks who would go on to form some of the biggest British blues rock bands of the era. We’ll hear selections from Buddy Guy, Big Mama Thornton, Sleepy John Estes, and Willie Dixon, among others.

We’ll also remember Popsy Dixon, drummer and vocalist with the Holmes Brothers for his July 26th birthday with music from him as the featured vocalist and then in a special featuring the Holmes Brothers in concert in hour two of the show.

Plus new music from Catherine Russell, Frank Bey, Cindy Cashdollar and Jimmy Johnson.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
