Like I promised myself, I’ve gotten back together with friends for a weekly game of Dungeons and Dragons. We’re playing the new fifth edition of the game, which is the most fun I’ve ever had with D&D. The rules tend to get out of the way and allow for great roleplaying opportunities. The problem is, as fun as this can be, sometimes retelling these stories is... problematic.
I guess you had to be there. The kinds of surprises you can come across during a game of Dungeons and Dragons don’t always translate into a good story later, but during the heat of a stressful round of combat, a lucky roll can turn into a moment you and your friends talk about together for a long time. Even if nobody else can truly understand.
