David Bowie's 'Something in the Air'

Saturday, October 17

The coming months will see an onslaught of live releases from the late David Bowie. In all, six new live albums are scheduled for release, including a 1999 performance titled Something in the Air (Live Paris 99). We’ll hear selections from that recording on this episode of the show as well as music from Delicate Sound of Thunder, the newly expanded 1989 live LP from Pink Floyd. The group’s first-ever, officially released live recording, the record features the David Gilmour-led version of the band.

'Death' by Coastlands

Monday, October 19

Death is the new release from Portland, Oregon’s Coastlands. The record draws from a number of musical styles, including shoegaze and post-rock. We’ll hear material from it as well as selections from Prince’s 1994 release, Come.

Led Zeppelin's 'III'

Tuesday, October 20

Released in October, 1970, Led Zeppelin’s third LP (titled III) was an acoustic-driven record, written largely by vocalist Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page at a cottage in Wales. We’ll hear music from that effort as well as selections from Plant’s new retrospective release, Digging Deep: Subterranea

'Halloween '81' from Frank Zappa

Wednesday, October 21

Frank Zappa frequently chose New York City as a stopping point on his tours, especially for Halloween. A new boxed set, Halloween ‘81 captures Zappa and his band live in the Big Apple at the end of October 1981, performing old and new material before a packed house at The Palladium. Zappa’s 1981 band included several Zappa band veterans, such as Tommy Mars and Ed Mann as well as newcomer, guitarist Steve Vai. We’ll hear music from this new set on this episode of the show as well as live selections from Prince.

Thursday, October 22

Listen for music from the new Pleased To Meet Me boxed set by The Replacements, including the band’s final recording session with original guitarist Bob Stinson. We’ll also hear selections from Prince’s 1980 release, Dirty Mind.
