Sedgwick County Property Values Decrease

Sedgwick County property owners have seen some decreases in the value of their homes and commercial buildings. KMUW's Aileen LeBlanc has more.

The Sedgwick County appraiser's office sent out evaluations for residential and commercial property. The county bases property taxes on the appraised values. Sedgwick County appraiser Mike Borchard presented his report to the County Commissioners Wednesday.

"About 85 percent of (residential) properties saw either a decrease or no change in value, and about 75 percent of commercial properties received a decrease or no change in value," Borchard told commissioners.

There was growth in new construction in 2015.

Borchard said he didn't want to make a prediction but said that so far growth for the year seems flat.
