Early voting is underway in Sedgwick County for Kansas’ 4th Congressional District special election, and with it comes the introduction of new voting machines.

Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Tabitha Lehman says citizens will still have an option to vote either by paper ballot or electronically.
“But the difference will be this time is when you use the electronic voting machine, you make your selections on the screen," Lehman says. "It will physically print out a ballot for you, and you will be able to look at that ballot. Those votes will not be counted until you take that ballot across the room to the tabulator and stick that ballot in, just like you would a regular paper ballot.”
New electronic poll books are also in use as part of the check-in process. A voter’s name will be looked up by scanning their ID electronically, instead of through a paper poll book.
Fifteen satellite voting sites will open in Sedgwick County on April 6. The election will take place on April 11.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
