The race for Sedgwick County’s 3rd District is between a current commissioner and a retired TV news journalist.
Republican David Dennis says he wants a second term to complete unfinished county business. Dennis is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and a retired teacher. He has served on various local, state and regional organizations. He beat two-term Republican Karl Peterjohn in the 2016 primary to represent the 3rd District.
Democrat Mike Iuen spent more than three decades reporting on local government, and now has the time to serve in a leadership role. Iuen retired in 2016 from a career in local TV news. As a reporter, he often covered Sedgwick County government. He says through his work, he developed an understanding of complex county operations, and was able to present both sides of issues to the public.
The 3rd District covers western Sedgwick County, and includes west Wichita, Goddard, Cheney, Viola and Mount Hope.
