Remembering Jody Williams + Longhair & Bartholomew Crescent City Centennials

December 14/16

Crossroads pays tribute to Chicago singer, songwriter, guitarist and session man Jody Williams, who passed away at the beginning of the month. We’ll hear music he did early in his career, selections from his comeback albums from 2002 and 2004, and guest appearances he made with Howlin’ Wolf, Mannish Boys, and Jimmy Rogers.

Also more music for the December feature celebrating centennial birthdays of Professor Longhair and Dave Bartholomew. Along with music from them, we’ll hear other Crescent City selections from the Meters, Keith Stong, Johnny Adams, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Paul Gayten, Cyril Neville and Henry Butler (who will be featured on this month’s Global Village at the Savannah Music Festival concert special on Dec. 31st).

And there’s new music from Kirk Fletcher, the Knickerbocker All Stars, Frank Bey, Tony Joe White and more.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
