Remembering Aretha Franklin Plus New Music From Deathcab For Cutie, El Ten Eleven

Tuesday, August 21

We remember soul, gospel and R&B legend Aretha Franklin, who passed away last week at the age of 76. We’ll hear music from throughout her career as well as selections from Mavis Staples, Bonnie Raitt, Dusty Springfield and Kira Small.

Wednesday, August 22

Listen for selections from Peter Wolf’s 2002 album Sleepless as well as music from Warren Zevon’s The Wind.

Thursday, August 23

Thank You For Today is the ninth album from Death Cab For Cutie and arrives 20 years after the band’s debut album, Something About Airplanes. We’ll hear music from that as well as from Neko Case’s latest, Hell-On.

Friday, August 24

Hawksamillion is the new release from Jody Seabody & The Whirls, listen for selections from that as well as Bee Thousand, the 1994 album from Ohio’s Guided By Voices.

Saturday, August 25

The Deep End is the new album from Kansas band Eighty Proof Engine, we’ll hear music from that as well as from John Prine’s self-titled debut album, notable for the inclusion of songs such as “Sam Stone” and “Angel From Montgomery.”

Monday, August 27

We’ll hear selections from the latest by Australia’s Bloods. Titled Feelings the music recalls the classic sounds of Sleater Kinney as well as contemporary acts such as Courtney Barnett and Soccer Mommy. Plus music from Robert Plant’s Now and Zen.

Tuesday, August 28

Banker’s Hill is the latest from acclaimed post-rock duo El Ten Eleven. Listen for selections from that as well as the Spirit of the Stairs release, Episodes.

Wednesday, August 29

Released in 2011 The Party Ain’t Over was the thirtieth studio album from rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson. Featuring contributions from members of My Morning Jacket, Afghan Whigs and produced by Jack White the collection finds Jackson covering songs by Bob Dylan, Amy Winehouse and Jimmie Rodgers. Listen for selections from that as well as from Bob Dylan’s 2006 effort, Modern Times.

Thursday, August 30

Listen for selections from Todd Snider’s Time As We Know It: The Songs of Jerry Jeff Walker plus music from Twistable, Turnable Man: A Musical Tribute To The Songs Of Shel Silverstein.

Friday, August 31

We’ll hear music from Black Grapefruit’s latest, All My Relations as well as Alright, the 2018 album from singer-songwriter Jeffrey Gaines.
