Open Streets ICT is returning for a third year on Sunday.
Saharah Small is with Visual Fusion, which provides marketing for Open Streets. She says the event brings residents of all ages together for fun and community-building.
Small says people go to “iconic areas in Wichita to really see how everyone talks to each other, how different people communicate with each other [and] how different cultures might even come together.”
Open Streets takes place from noon to 5 p.m. along Douglas from College Hill to Delano. The street is closed to traffic during the event for biking, walking, running, dancing, yoga and more. No scooters are allowed.
Along the four-mile stretch, people can stop at activity hubs, visit participating Douglas businesses, and buy food and other items from street vendors while listening to music.
Participants can use the Open Streets ICT app to plan and navigate during the event. The music lineup also is on the app.
Small says the number of vendors has doubled this year so every street has something for the public to engage with. She says organizers are expecting around 50,000 people. The event will be held rain or shine.
The Wichita Transit Q-Line will run along First and Second streets between Oliver and McLean.
