While it's tough to get out and do much these days, KMUW's Jordan Kirtley brings us the "Next Best Thing"—what we hope will be a very limited series where we look at ways we can stay connected through *virtual* events and activities.
If you’re not already following the Hutchinson Art Center on social media, go find them now. Myriad online activities have popped up since they temporarily closed their physical space, including virtual art exhibitions, a weekly art prompt, and a one-hour yoga flow streamed live every Wednesday night. And starting today, you can take part in their April Art Daze challenge. There’s a different theme (either springtime or quarantine related) every day in April. You can share and browse creations using the hashtag #artdaze2020.
For both politics and film buffs, there’s a virtual group screening and discussion this Saturday hosted by Femme Fest ICT. To participate, rent and watch the documentary Slay the Dragon at or before 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The movie follows community activists and grassroots campaigners as they take on gerrymandering in the U.S. Then, join the Femme Fest founders and other special guests on Zoom at 4:00. Links to the film and discussion are on the Femme Fest ICT Facebook page or the mama.film website.
And, thanks to the creative minds behind the music venue WAVE, you can still get your farmers market fix. The Funky Fresh Farmers Market debuted on waveict.com last week and is already well stocked with goods from local farmers and vendors. You can have your order delivered to your doorstep if you’re within 15 miles of downtown Wichita, but why not select the parking lot pickup option and ride your bicycle? What could be more uplifting than pedaling home with a loaf of ciabatta in your basket?
