Monday, February 10

Global Village highlights world music covers of songs from Dylan, the Beatles and The Staple Singers; February featured artist Angelique Kidjo; the Easy Star All Stars; From Another World, a new world music tribute to Dylan and more.

Tuesday, February 11

Global Village highlights music from world music artists who've won Grammys – including February featured artist Angelique Kidjo, Ziggy Marley, the Gipsy Kings, and desert rock group Tinariwen. Plus, new music from Brazil’s Nana Vasconcelos, Dave Sharp’s Secret 7 and William Onyeabor.

Wednesday, February 12

Tonight in the Global Village, music from kora player Ballake Sissoko, the unusual electric kora sound of a group led by Ba Cissoko, classic tracks from Los Lobos and Bob Marley & the Wailers, plus music from A Concert for Kirsty MacColl, Balkan Beats Soundlab and The Rough Guide to Irish Music.

Thursday, February 13

SPECIAL: Global Village celebrates the birthday of Peter Gabriel with his own world-influenced recordings, guest appearances with world music artists (including February featured artist Angelique Kidjo, Afro Celt Sound System, and Youssou N’Dour), and  music from  artists on RealWorld Records, the world music label he founded, including  Jam Nation, the Imagined Village and Papa Wemba.

*Strange Currency will also be featuring Peter Gabriel tonight.

Friday, February 14

SPECIAL: It’s hearts and flowers in the Global Village, celebrating Valentine’s Day with love songs from around the world. It’s also the birthday of Michael Doucet of Beausoleil, so some romantic songs from the famed Cajun band as well.

*Strange Currency will also be doing a Valentine’s Day special tonight.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
