While we're currently in the midst of a pandemic, a few Martin Luther King Jr. Day event organizers will celebrate the life of the civil rights leader through virtual events this year.
You can participate in these events beginning this Friday and continuing through Wednesday next week.
The Kansas African American Museum — Friday, Jan. 15, 12 p.m.
Although there will be no pancake breakfast or parade this year, The Kansas African American Museum will host a special discussion moderated by Denise Sherman. They'll be joined by Joseph Shepard and Danielle Johnson of the culture-shifting podcast "Discomfort & Grace."
Greater Wichita Ministerial League — Monday, Jan. 18, 12 p.m.
Join the Greater Wichita Ministerial League (GWML) as they celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Evangelist Dr. Dorinda Clark- Cole will be the GWML's MLK speaker.
13th Annual MLK Commemoration — Wednesday, Jan. 25, 6:30 p.m.
Wichita State University Office of Diversity and Inclusion will host the 13th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration. The virtual event highlights and memorializes the work, accomplishments, and legacy of MLK. Participants can join the livestream at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20. This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Michael Waters, founder and lead pastor of the Abundant Life AME Church in Dallas, Texas. The event will also recognize the 2021 Drum Major Award recipient Dr. Selena Jackson.
