Mavis Staples, Popsy Dixon & Mick Jagger

July 26/28

Crossroads wraps up the July feature celebrating the 80th birthday of Mavis Staples with music she did under her own name and with the Staple Singers – and marks birthdays of Popsy Dixon of the Holmes Brothers, and Mick Jagger (with the blues side of the Stones, a guest appearance with Buddy Guy, and some music from Chicago Plays the Stones project).  And in hour two of the show, it’s a special on gospel and the blues, including music from both the Staple Singers and the Holmes Brothers.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
