The Mavis Birthday Celebration Continues

July 19/21

Crossroads continues the July feature celebrating the 80th birthday of Mavis Staples with music from one of her solo albums produced by Prince, in guest appearances with Pops Staples and Luther Dickinson, and with the Staple Singers – plus a cover of a Staples classic from the latest album from contemporary Sacred Steel band, the Lee Boys.

Also featured in this show, the latest from Rick Vito (ex-Fleetwood Mac and Bob Seger), Robin Trower, Grady Champion (with a tribute to soul blues star Z.Z. Hill), Billy Branch (with a tribute to blues harp great Little Walter) the Texas Horns, and Jimmie Vaughan.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
