Marginalia: Chang-rae Lee On 'My Year Abroad'

Michelle Branca Lee
Chang-rae Lee

Chang-rae Lee is known for exploring issues of culture and identity. His new novel, My Year Abroad, introduces readers to a young American who is taken on a year-long global adventure by a Chinese-American businessman.

This book takes a deep dive into the American dream and consumption, and more granular, at the transition from average college student to domestic adulthood.

I recently spoke with Lee about the book and its memorable characters. Here’s our conversation.
