Luther & Bernard Allison, Dave Bartholomew, Spencer Bohren Tribute, New Releases & Concert Previews

Friday, August 23, and Sunday, August 25

Crossroads continues the August feature marking the 80th birthday of blues great Luther Allison, along with music from his son Bernard, and tributes to several New Orleans musicians who passed away recently. We’ll hear Allison from one of his later U.S. comeback releases, Dave Bartholomew in his role as producer for New Orleans R&B artist Smiley Lewis, Art Neville early in his career doing a Mardi Gras classic with the Hawketts, and in hour two, a concert performance from Crescent City bluesman Spencer Bohren.

Crossroads also previews several local and regional blues concerts in the coming week and features new music from Manx Marriner Mainline, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram, and Alexis P. Suter.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
