KS Officials: Cash Donations Best Way to Help in Oklahoma

The Kansas Division of Emergency Management is urging Kansans who want to help the recovery in Oklahoma to make cash donations.

Spokesperson Sharon Watson says cash donations are easiest to use for the non-profit organizations assisting in the recovery. She says donations of food, clothing or other supplies can be difficult for responders to handle.

“It’s challenging for an emergency responder in the chaos of the first few days of response to match up a particular item with the individual who might need it," she said. " And it just makes for a much more difficult situation.”

Watson says Kansas emergency responders are prepared to help in Oklahoma; they're waiting for Oklahoma officials to determine what assistance they need. She says states generally make those requests within the first few days following a natural disaster.
