The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has releaseda preliminary reporton abortions in Kansas.
According to Kansas state law, providers of abortion services must keep records and provide them to KDHE. The Women's Right To Know Act requires that certain information is given to those who seek abortions, as well as a report to KDHE about the number of informed consents.
The report shows there were 6,810 abortions reported last year, which is 164 fewer than in 2015.
The age group that sought the most abortions was between 20 and 24, at nearly 31 percent. Four abortions were performed in the 14 and younger group, and 17 in the 45 and older age range.
There were almost as many out-of-state residents who received an abortion as those in Kansas, most of whom came from Missouri.
