Kansas Department Of Revenue To Review Security Measures Following Shooting

https://www.ksrevenue.org

The Kansas Department of Revenue is conducting a security review after an employee was shot multiple times at the agency's taxation office in west Wichita.

Cortney Holloway, 35, was shot several times on Tuesday and is recovering at a Wichita hospital. According to police, the suspect, 51-year-old Ricky Wirths, was discussing his case with Holloway when Wirths pulled out a gun and shot him.

Wirths had owed nearly $400,000 in unpaid sales taxes related to his construction business.

Complaints had been made to management about the lack of security. Secretary of Revenue Sam Williams says the agency is implementing a review of all security measures.

"[We need] to determine if we need to make any changes to our policies, to our actual physical presence, anything we need to do," Williams says. "Within the next few weeks, we will know exactly what we need to do."

Williams says the location has two secure doors and clients are buzzed into the facility.

Workers said there were bullet holes in cubicle walls and that employees were badly shaken after the shooting. Wirths was booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and is being held without bond.
